The focus on intimate partner violence isn’t a way to demean or victimize Black woman who deal with this type of abuse. Instead, it is a way to shed light on certain situations that usually get swept under the rug by society as Black women’s oppressions are usually deemed obsolete or non-existent compared to their white counterparts. We are here to acknowledge their struggles and form of oppressions and are here to show that they can’t be lost in the shuffle.
Hashtags such as #SayHerName are perfect examples of not forgetting any of the women that have been killed. We need to press the issue and deal with the fact that Black women are being battered.
It is imperative to not only collect data about abuse but also try to show the hints of self-discovery from the ordeals of abuse on the landscape of the Caribbean culture.
