Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a serious public health problem that has devastating consequences. Nearly 28% of women in the United States have experienced IPV. The risk is heightened for Black women, with an estimated 4 in 10 experiencing physical abuse by a partner in their lifetimes.

It is very alarming that within the African American or African Caribbean community, Black women must suffer more than their White or Latino counterparts. For Black women, it is almost seen as they are the physical doormats of their spouses.
